Add on modules

The following classes/modules are offered separately or can be added onto other courses:

  • Administering Emergency Oxygen – This course gives participants the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to a victim of a breathing emergency using breathing devices, including resuscitation masks, bag-valve-mask resuscitators (BVMs), and emergency oxygen.
  • Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Auto-Injector Administration – This skill boost was developed to address the need for training about anaphylaxis and the use of an epinephrine auto-injector device. Participants must be certified in First Aid and/or CPR or enrolled in an equivalent Red Cross course to take this skill boost.
  • Asthma and Quick-Relief Medication Administration – This skill boost was developed to address the need for training and certification in the use of an inhaler with spacer and includes optional training in the use of a nebulizer. Participants must be certified in First Aid and/or CPR or enrolled in an equivalent Red Cross course to take this skill boost.
  • Bloodborne Pathogens – The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Bloodborne Pathogens Training course is to teach participants how to protect themselves and others from exposure to bloodborne pathogens on the job, and what to do if an exposure occurs. The course content and activities will prepare participants to make appropriate decisions about preventing bloodborne pathogen disease transmission. This course is intended only to assist employers with meeting the annual training mandate as stipulated in the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard. This course does not constitute full compliance with the OSHA standard. The employer is responsible for providing employees with workplace- specific information regarding engineering controls, the use of PPE, immunizations, exposure control plans, and procedures for reporting exposure incidents.
  • Head, Neck, Muscle, Bone, Joint Injuries and Splinting – This skill boost developed to address the need for training in recognizing and caring for head, neck, and spinal injuries and recognizing and caring for muscle, bone, and joint injuries, including the need for training in the use of rigid splint and a sling and binder. This skill boost also includes additional optional training in the use of a vacuum splint. Participants must be certified in First Aid and/or CPR or enrolled in an equivalent Red Cross course to take this skill boost.
  • Life-Threatening Bleeding and Tourniquet Application – This skill boost was developed to address the need for training in the use of direct pressure, applying a tourniquet and wound packing to care for life-threatening bleeding. Participants must be certified in First Aid and/or CPR or enrolled in an equivalent Red Cross course to take this skill boost.
  • Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Administration – This skill boost was developed to address the need for training in recognizing an opioid overdose and administering naloxone via the nose (nasal spray or nasal atomizer). Participants must be certified in First Aid and/or CPR or enrolled in an equivalent Red Cross course to take this skill boost. If participants are not certified in CPR, they must complete the skill practice for Compression-Only CPR for this skill boost.
